Located in Sheridan Indiana Spicewood Garden Apartments is a 25 unit affordable senior duplex community with all the amenities that make a building a home. In addition to its on site office, exercise and computer rooms, every unit in this development is registered for Silver Certification under the LEED for Homes rating system. LEED for Homes sets a high standard for building performance as well as energy and resource efficiency.
All units include several Energy Star appliances, including refrigerators, dishwashers, clothes washers and exhaust fans. Using Energy Star rated appliances saves energy and money.
All bathrooms are fully adaptable to changing needs. Every shower and toilet are equipped with grab bars, and the ability to add a shower seat if needed. Toilets have elongated seats for comfortable maneuvering and the shower head is fully adjustable on a sliding rod and removeable for easy use. Emergency pull cords are provided in all master bedrooms and bathrooms, that sound an alarm on the porch.
Points were claimed under the LEED for Homes program for the use of low flow faucets, shower heads and toilets, which saves money on utility bills.
Exterior materials were carefully selected to be extremely durable with minimal maintenance. Fiber cement board used on the exterior uses recycled fly ash with fiberglass and cement to produce a very strong and durable product. The use of brick on the bottom portion of the walls helps prevent insect and rodent problems as well as give the exterior shell a life span of over 25 years.
Along with durable exterior finishes Energy Star rated windows and doors are used to save energy and to promote thermal comfort by preventing drafts and cold spots.
